Calculation methodology
A useful calculator should show enough of its math that a contractor, homeowner, supplier, or reviewer can challenge the result.
1. Geometry comes first
Area, length, and volume are calculated before waste, density, coverage, package size, or pricing. This makes the base measurement auditable.
2. Assumptions are inputs whenever practical
Material density, bag yield, paint coverage, board width, gaps, spacing, and cost inputs are visible. When a value can vary by product or supplier, the user can replace the default.
3. Purchase units round up
A raw calculation can produce 23.2 sheets or 41.7 bags. A takeoff has to convert that into a whole quantity a person can purchase. Nioret Takeoff rounds package quantities up after the allowance is applied.
4. Structural design is kept separate
Material counting and geometry are not the same as structural engineering. Deck beams, posts, footings, rafter sizing, fence wind design, fastening schedules, and jurisdiction-specific requirements are not inferred from insufficient inputs.
5. Default examples are not disguised market data
Cost calculators may include example values so the interface demonstrates immediately. They are labeled as editable examples rather than presented as a current national price.
6. Your measurements stay on your device
Calculator entries are handled on your device while you use the page. No account is required to run a calculation.
