Gravel Calculator

Calculate geometry first, then convert the volume to tons using the density your supplier gives you.

Quick answerGravel tonnage cannot be exact without a density assumption. This calculator exposes that assumption instead of hiding it.

Gravel volume and tonnage

Volume comes from geometry; tonnage comes from density. Those are deliberately separate inputs because crushed stone, washed gravel, base, moisture, and gradation do not all weigh the same.

cubic yards = length × width × (depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27 tons = cubic yards × supplier density

Use your supplier's tons-per-cubic-yard figure when available. The default is only an editable starting value.
